灵顿公爵Duke Ellington (乐团)
艾灵顿公爵在他的音乐生涯中，多次重新翻转爵士音乐的定义，重新赋予爵士音乐不同的意涵和风格。
CD2 所收录的"Anatomy of a Murder" ，让他首度获得葛莱美奖肯定。
艾灵顿公爵从1923年自创乐团，到1974年他过世，一生贡献给爵士乐超过五十个年头，爵士史上罕有乐手像他这样，见证了爵士音乐从最卑微的地位一路爬升成为主流乐种、再掉回到次文化的过程。
他崛起於纽约哈林区的棉花俱乐部，这里可以说是孕育早期爵士音乐的圣地，他不愿意被称为爵士乐乐手，他只说自己演奏的音乐是「美式音乐」，或许也正是因为这个独特的概念，艾灵顿公爵在他的音乐生涯中，多次重新翻转爵士音乐的定义，重新赋予爵士音乐不同的意涵和风格，其中包括他以重新的角度看待大乐团爵士，让爵士乐进入艺术的层次，而不是只是伴奏和舞厅中的配乐。
这套录音收录的是艾灵顿公爵在1959-61年间短短三年的录音，但却已经有十张之多，由此我们可以知道他的多產。但对於出生在十九世纪最后一年的他而言，这时的他已经迈入六十岁之龄了，却依然活跃於乐坛，儘管时势已经明显对他不利，因为，到了五零年代，美国乐坛因为人民收入水准提高，俱乐部再也请不起大编制的乐团，所以纷採小乐团型式演出，这促成了五零年代咆勃爵士的诞生，也让艾灵顿公爵顿时免临失业危机，同时期的大乐团领班如贝西伯爵就只能解散团，但艾灵顿公爵却凭著他能说善道的经营之道，让乐团可以几乎每天都有班可以演奏，不致失业，但旗下乐手纷纷不忍低薪求去，最后也让乐团营运困难，再加上这时他的摇摆风格爵士已经不受欢迎，让他面临生涯低潮，直至1956年新港爵士音乐节上再显身手受到注目，让新一代乐迷重新爱上他。
这份现场录音（其实是隔天重录）当时交由哥伦比亚公司发行，促成艾灵顿公爵与该公司合约。在1959年一口气拿下葛莱美奖最佳电视配乐奖、作曲奖、大乐团演奏奖三座奖座。这份让他首度拿到葛莱美奖的录音作品，也收录在本辑中，就是第二张CD "Anatomy of a Murder"。
